1. Who sponsors and operates Saint John's On The Lake?
Saint John’s On The Lake is a member of Saint John’s Communities Inc., a non-for-profit 501(c)(3) Community operated by a volunteer board of directors who govern the organization and support the leadership of experienced administrative, professional and skilled personnel.

2. What kinds of living options are available in the Saint John's Community?
The Saint John's community includes the Lake Tower Apartments for independent retirement living; Canterbury Court, an assisted care residence and Windsor & Stratford Courts, skilled nursing care for long and short term stays.

3. Is residency contingent upon religious affiliation?
Saint John's gladly welcomes people of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds.

4. Is there a choice of plans and what are the fees?
Currently Saint John's offers three options to our independent living apartments: Life Care, 90% Refundable and Enhanced Rental. (Options are explained in more detail by clicking on Independent Living.)

5. What are the requirements for residency in the Tower Apartments?
Applicants must be at least 62 years of age; be able to live independently; and demonstrate sufficient financial resources to satisfy the entrance and continuing monthly fees.

6. How can I sign up for the Tower Apartment waiting list?
Saint John's has a short application that requests health and financial information. When an applicant is approved, a refundable deposit (of $500) secures your name on our priority waiting list.

7. If I choose the Life Care plan and I move out or pass away, is any part of the entrance fee refundable?
In the event of death within the first 30 days of residency, 100% of the entrance fee would be refunded. After 30 days and within 90 days 90% of the entrance fee would be refunded. (After 90 days of residency the entrance fee is no longer refundable.)

In the event a resident chooses to leave Saint John's within the first 4 years of occupancy, the entrance fee is refunded on a prorated basis.

8. What services are included in the monthly fee?
Fees include all utilities, such as heat, water and electricity, and the use of laundry facilities. Building maintenance, security and check-in systems and emergency care is also included.

9. What kind of dining services are offered?
Although all apartments are furnished with a full kitchen, many residents choose to eat at Taylor's, our exclusive dining room with a breathtaking view of Milwaukee’s gorgeous lakefront. Taylor's offers lunch as well as a full course dinner menu. Additionally, our café offers soup, sandwiches and salads daily for lunch.

10. What safety and security features are provided?
Daily contact with each resident is routine procedure through our daily check-in system. Smoke detectors and sprinkler systems are installed in each apartment and in all public areas. Emergency call cords are located in each bath and sleeping area of the apartments. There are coded security entrances and all guests and visitors sign in and are announced.

11. Are transportation services available?
Saint John's provides transportation to shopping malls, grocery stores, cultural events and recreational outings. Special trips to doctor appointments may also be easily arranged. We are also conveniently located on Milwaukee's Bus route #30 and taxi service is available.

12. What kinds of cultural, social and educational events are offered at Saint John's On The Lake?
Saint John's offers numerous enrichment opportunities such as writer and poetry groups, tai chi, bridge, lecture series, movie nights, woodworking, Internet computer access, etc. Our very own Flagg Theatre and Uihlein Peters Art Gallery further enhance cultural life. Regular group outings provide front door service to all that the vibrant city of Milwaukee has to offer.

13. Are there overnight guest accommodations?
Yes, Saint John's has two guest suites that can be reserved.

14. Are there volunteer opportunities at Saint John's On The Lake?
Residents can participate in a wide variety of volunteer opportunities including clerking in the Corner Store, assisting in the computer center, hosting and greeting at Taylor's, sorting and delivering mail and much more. (Click on Volunteers to find out more.)
