Major Step Taken Toward Completion of $46 Million Expansion of East Side Senior Living Community

MILWAUKEE, WI (December 13, 2010) – Saint_John's on the Lake, located at 1840 N. Prospect Avenue on Milwaukee’s east side, took one more critical step toward completion of their $46 million expansion today. After years of careful planning and 1½ years of construction, the 21-story expansion is now completely enclosed and the construction crane, which was the only one on the Milwaukee skyline during this economic downturn, will be removed starting today. The crane, which is 350 feet high, has a lifting radius of over 200 feet and maximum lifting capacity of 44,000 pounds, is operated by a single operator who has to climb up a series of ladders to reach his perch at the top of the crane each morning. The crane actually disassembles itself using a device called a “top climber” and this process will take about a week. Kathie Eilers, President of Saint_John's commented, “We are very excited about this significant step forward in completing the expansion of our senior living community. Saint_John's, which has been serving the Milwaukee market for nearly 145 years, has moved forward with this expansion in the middle of an economic downturn demonstrating the strength of the organization and its ongoing commitment to serving the seniors of Milwaukee.” Craig Jorgensen, President of Pewaukee-based VJS Construction Services, Inc. (formerly Voss Jorgensen Schueler), added, “The project has had a far reaching economic impact as it has employed more than 150 construction workers daily. I am proud to say that this project has over 200,000 hours of no lost-time incidents and is currently ahead of schedule.”

Saint_John's is Milwaukee’s premier lakefront retirement community located at 1840 N. Prospect Avenue. The expansion includes 87 spacious apartment residences ranging in size from 1,090 to 2,430 square feet. Each residence includes an open concept floor plan, full kitchen, laundry room, terrace and oversized windows affording magnificent lake and city views. Entrance fees which include the residence as well as services and amenities start at $155,000. The expansion is scheduled to open in summer 2011 and also includes a Town Center with art gallery, bistro, cultural arts center and adjoining gardens, fitness center, indoor swimming pool and spa. The expansion residences are in addition to the 110 existing residences located at Saint_John's which originally opened in 1979. Saint_John's roots date back to 1868 when the organization was founded as shelter services by Women of the Episcopal Church. Today, Saint_John's is an independent organization; current and future residents represent a wide variety of cultural, social and religious backgrounds.
